Miss Rodeo for a Reason Pagent Information


MISSION STATEMENT: Miss Rodeo For A Reason is a title of honor representing royal character. Miss RFAR is a young woman of virtue who is passionate about contributing to a greater purpose. She uses the RFAR platform to shine her light, connect to new faces in new places, and share her personal reason to rodeo with the world.

Out of the roping box, the Miss RFAR pageant levels the playing field, shatters the traditional mold, rewards creativity and resourcefulness by encouraging young women to embrace their unique traits, talents, experience and interests. Competing in the Miss RFAR pageant provides an opportunity for young women to advance in leadership and actively lend their passion to the sport utilizing the platform of Rodeo For A Reason. Under the RFAR banner, contestants are provided an opportunity to use their gifts in the spotlight during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas to voice their personal reasons to rodeo.

Miss RFAR is a Christian based pageant, open to women ages 13-24 who are passionate about serving others and preserving the legacy of rodeo as our western heritage. In lieu of horsemanship, our main category is “Leadership.” The MRFAR foundation scripture is Proverbs 31:25, “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”

***A contestant under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. In the event of a contestant with special needs, she will be allowed a personal assistant to help her compete as necessary during Round 2 of the pageant.***

Miss RAFR Round 1: We are looking for a girl who can use today’s social media platform in a positive and productive way to encourage her followers and promote the title of Miss Rodeo For A Reason. Contestants will complete an online entry form as well as provide a 5 minute YouTube link video explaining your passion…what draws you to horses, rodeo, a western lifestyle and what is your personal reason to rodeo. We want to know how each you are actively using your gifts, talents, interests and experience to better your community. For example, Jane Doe, volunteers each Wednesday at a therapeutic riding center for veterans. Supporting US Military is her purpose/passion and this will be her platform to compete for Miss Rodeo For A Reason. Online entries for Round One open September 1, entries close September 31. There is $95 application fee.

Miss RFAR Round 2: The top ten qualifiers from round one will advance to compete in Las Vegas. These winners will be announced on October 6th, 2018. Five girls will be honored as being named an alternates in the event that any of the top ten qualifiers cannot attend the Miss RAFR pageant in Las Vegas. The Miss RAFR pageant will be held December 12th-15th, 2018 at the Plaza Hotel. NOTE:

During the Miss Rodeo For A Reason Pageant, a hotel room in Las Vegas will be provided as complimentary for the contestant and ONE guest.

Contestants are asked to find sponsors for their ad in the official Miss Rodeo For A Reason program book. This ad will be available in print and online. A WPRA TOP 15 replica saddle will be awarded to the contestant who sells the most ads. This is a custom G7 saddle valued at $3,500.00.  If the event of a tie, there will be a draw.

Each morning, a mentor/guest speaker will coach the girls on the day’s character topic that will explain and demonstrate the value the RAFR Board of Directors is looking for in Miss RFAR.

Social media views (points) will count in both Round 1 and Round 2. Contestants should be conducting interviews with athletes, fans, sponsors, vendors. Contestants should discuss rodeo topics, their platform, and Rodeo For A Reason. Contestants are expected to ask vendors for donated items to be given away online, which also increases viewership. The vendor must be held responsible for shipping the item.

Contestants will be expected to promote RFAR during the day at all events related to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Contestants will be asked to distribute ornaments/invitation cards to remind people to tune into the 5:00 pm RFAR message of the day on the RAFR Facebook page. The ornaments/invitation cards will be colorful and lightweight plastic and in the shape of the new RAFR spur logo. There will be a viewing contest held in which at the end of ten rounds during the ten days of the National Finals Rodeo, viewers will submit all ten key words from the daily “VivaLasJesus Victory messages for an online drawing to win a prize saddle.

FEEDBAG FASHIONISTA SHOW: based on the show Project Runway. Contestants will have time to design a “winning look” with feedbags and materials provided. (Glue, glitter, sequins, fringe, baling wire, hay string, etc.). It is what is on the inside that matters most. The Feedbag Fashionista Show will display who has the ability and resourcefulness to create something original and stylish. Miss Rodeo For A Reason should exhibit the same level of confidence in a feedbag as in any other attire.

At the end of the day, the girls will score one another based on the daily mentor’s advice. The RFAR Board of Directors believe that no one knows the competitors better than the contestants themselves. Mentors will be asked to review the score cards and judges’ notes at the end of each day. Unlike any other pageant, the MRFAR title will not be awarded by sit down interview, horsemanship patterns, or wardrobe. Miss RFAR should be honest and will be trusted to carry the title with dignity and professionalism through social media outreach, leadership, and a strong pursuit of faith.

Miss Rodeo For A Reason will receive $2,500.00. Miss RFAR will also have a Royal Court. Three additional contestants will be highlighted as outstanding leaders. Each winner will receive a new banner and buckle she can wear throughout the year. The MRFAR Court is expected to use this opportunity to promote their reasons to rodeo. The court will be composed of RFAR POSH Leader (Poised, Optimistic, Spiritual, Honorable), RFAR Social Media Leader, and RFAR Horsemanship Leader. Each member of the court will receive $1,250.
